Chris Garrett has served in the Oregon House of Representatives since 2009. As the son of educators, Chris grew up in Portland and takes seriously his responsibility to ensure that the needs of all students are met. During his two terms, Chris has made priorities of tackling some of Oregon’s toughest problems, including runaway health care costs, unstable tax structure, and restoring investment in education to where it was when Chris was growing up in the Portland schools.
Since 2002, Chris has practiced law with the Portland law firm of Perkins Coie, where he concentrates on business dispute resolution. Chris has also helped raise money from the legal community for the Oregon Food Bank and worked as a volunteer judge with the Classroom Law Project, helping high school students learn about the legal system and the U.S. Constitution.
Chris has worked to spur sustainable economic growth for Oregon by sponsoring a rainy day fund, reforming tax incentives to more effectively promote growth, requiring ballot measures to identify funding sources, and pushing to allow markets to address environmental problems.
