Karen Carter Peterson was the Louisiana State Senator representing the city of New Orleans. Prior to being elected to the Senate, Karen spent a decade serving New Orleans in the Louisiana House of Representatives, where she served as House Speaker Pro Tempore.
During college, Karen worked in the Congressional offices of both U.S. Senator John Breaux and Congressman Billy Tauzin. In addition to her public service, Karen is in private practice with the Davillier Law Group in New Orleans, where she advises new businesses on strategic development and the local regulatory process. Karen is also active in many professional and civic activities. Among the many honors she has received, she has been honored with the Legislator of the Year Award by the Alliance for Good Government in 2000 and 2004.
