NewDEALers Elected to Leadership Positions in State Legislatures

Following the election, state lawmakers are shaping priorities for next year and, across the country, they are choosing NewDEAL members to lead their legislative caucuses in this challenging time. These rising NewDEALers include Maine Representative Ryan Fecteau, who has made history with his election as the state’s first openly gay Speaker of the House. “I’m filled with hope and determination because when Democrats lead, people who are too often forgotten or left at the margins are seen, they are valued and given a fair shot,” he said. Other NewDEALers elevated to leadership position recently are: Iowa Senator Zach Wahls, elected as Senate Minority Leader; Colorado Senator Kerry Donovan, elected as Majority Whip; Minnesota Senator Melisa Franzen, elected as Assistant Majority Leader; Georgia Senator Elena Parent, elected as Caucus Chair; Georgia Senator Jen Jordan, chosen as her caucus’ Election and Fundraising Chair; and Connecticut Representative Sean Scanlon, named Chair of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee.
