Canton North Carolina Mayor Zeb Smathers Secures Funds to Improve Wastewater Infrastructure

Canton, North Carolina Mayor Zeb Smathers worked with a bipartisan group of leaders to secure nearly $41 million in federal funds from a Biden-era water resources program that will go towards improving the city’s stormwater management system and wastewater infrastructure. In recent years, Canton has dealt with historic flooding, leveling disastrous economic blows to the city that this new funding aims to ease. “This is historic. One of the largest, if not the most significant, influx of federal money,” Smathers said. “It's over a generation of projects in one swoop."
