Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval Launches the Children’s Savings Account Pilot Program
Idea Category: Safety Net, Youth Programs
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval is making historic investments in the city’s youth, launching the Children's Savings Account pilot program, which offers up to $500 in a 529 college savings account for qualifying low-income preschoolers. "There's no doubt that there's a cost associated with this program. But we view it as an investment into not just these kids but an investment into the future of our city," Pureval said. Mayor Pureval is also working to reduce youth crime and violence by continuing to expand summer programming for teens, from free skating at the waterfront to late-night gatherings at the recreation center. So far, 2025 has seen the lowest number of shootings in 15 years.
