Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird Touts Positive Impact of New Co-Responder Program

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird touted the impact of the city’s Co-Responder Program, which pairs police officers with trained mental health professionals when responding to calls related to mental health. Lincoln Police have responded to more than 12,000 mental health related calls since last May, and in the first month of the new program, co-responders have provided assistance to individuals that did not require further emergency intervention on 65% of their calls. “This collaborative approach provides a more focused and effective response to the mental health needs of the community, while ensuring public safety,” said Baird. “The City’s implementation of the Co-Responder Program is a testament to how we work with our community partners to get our community members the care they need, when they need it. With co-responders on call, we are on track to make Lincoln the safest and healthiest capital city in America.”
