Mayor Brett Smiley Signed Executive Order To Strengthen Trust Between Police Officers And Immigrant Communities
Idea Category: Immigration
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley signed an executive order to prohibit collaboration between city law enforcement and ICE officers. The policy, which also bans officers from wearing face masks, requires body cameras, and mandates full identification at all times, comes following an incident in July in which Providence officers were accused of assisting in the detention of an immigrant.
