Arizona: Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego recently spoke about the city’s progress in addressing the community impacts of extreme heat. In 2024, there has been a decline in heat-related deaths and a 20% decrease in heat-related emergencies. Mayor Gallego attributed the progress to ongoing coordinated mitigation efforts with the City’s Offices of Heat Response and Mitigation, Homeless Solutions, Public Health, Emergency Management, and the Fire Department, which included expanding cooling and hydration stations and providing homeless residents with transitional housing.
