Idea Category: Judicial Reform
Arkansas: Senator Clarke Tucker helped spearhead a report recommending reform of how the Arkansas court system is funded. Proposals include the removal of a regressive, monthly $10 fee on installment plans used to pay court fines and fees. Court fees currently fund the running of district courts themselves. As Tucker states. “The most offensive part of it is that we use the installment fee to fund aspects of the judicial branch, like courtroom technology, that we as a legislative body ought to be funding.” The urges the state legislature to use alternative funding sources.
