Senator Matt Blake was first elected to the legislature in 2024 in one of the most competitive races in Iowa. He serves on six committees and is the ranking member of Judiciary. Senator Blake focuses on affordability for working Iowans, paid family leave, school funding, criminal justice reform, aging services, and trying to spend Iowa tax dollars wisely.

Prior to being elected to the Iowa Legislature, Senator Blake served as a City Council Member of Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines. During his tenure on Council, Senator Blake focused on increasing the number of first responders, expanding sustainability programs, addressing human services, increased affordable housing, and did it all while lowering property taxes. Senator Blake is a member of the Iowa Army National Guard where he serves as a Judge Advocate (JAG) and holds the rank of Major. He is a veteran who deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in 2021. Senator Blake is a private practice attorney with a focus on estate planning, elder law, Medicaid planning, special needs trusts, and real estate.
