Hawaii State Senator Troy Hashimoto represents District 5, encompassing Wailuku, Waikapū, Waiheʻe, and Kahului on Maui. Appointed by the Governor in 2023, he serves as an Assistant Majority Whip on the Senate’s Leadership team and as Vice Chair of the Housing Committee. He is also an active member of the Education, Higher Education, and Ways and Means Committees.

Prior to his Senate appointment, Troy served in the state House of Representatives from 2018 until 2023. During his time in the House, he held leadership roles as both Chair and Vice Chair of the Housing Committee. Among his landmark achievements was the development and passage of Act 57 (2021), which established critical renter protections and ensured due process following the expiration of the COVID-19 eviction moratorium. Troy also co-convened the Kupuna (Elderly) Caucus, chaired the Department of Hawaiian Homelands Act 279 Oversight Committee which oversaw a $600 million appropriation to reduce their housing wait list, and played a key role as chair of the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board. Troy’s journey in public service began with the Maui County Council, where he gained valuable firsthand experience in addressing community needs.
