Kelly Kim

Kelly Kim is a Summer Fellow at the NewDEAL. She is a rising sophomore at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Political Science with a concentration in Comparative Political, Economic, and Social Systems. Her academic and professional interests center around public policy, governance, international affairs, and the role of law in strengthening democratic institutions and equitable outcomes. Following undergrad, Kelly plans to attend law school and pursue a career at the intersection of public service, policymaking, and law.
Originally from Raleigh, NC, Kelly has developed a strong background in policy research, civic engagement, and legal advocacy across both public and non-profit sectors. She currently serves as a Diplomacy Analyst with the KORUS Institute of Politics, International Affairs, and Economics, where she researches U.S.-Korea relations, foreign policy strategy, and regional security issues. Previously, she conducted policy research on gender equity initiatives with WomenNC, aiding in developing recommendations for state and local policymakers under the mentorship of RTI International’s Global Gender Center. Kelly also served as the Executive Director of the statewide #IAmCS campaign under the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, securing over $40,000 in cumulative grant funding and supporting policy efforts aimed at expanding educational opportunities for underserved students.
