State Assemblymember Blanca Rubio’s co-authored bill that seeks to revamp and strengthen literacy in California schools was signed into law by Governor Newsom. The culmination of a five-year effort to improve literacy instruction, the bill will have schools adopt evidence-based reading instruction for first through the eighth grades, provide teaching training, and mandate screening for reading impairments in kindergarten through second grade.
