Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon Announces Expansion of Healthcare Benefits for Firefighters
Idea Category: Healthcare
Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon announced the expansion of healthcare benefits for hundreds of firefighters enrolled in the state health plan. The plan will now offer free preventative scans once every two years and aims to catch signs of cancer in its early stages, which is the leading cause of death for firefighters. “Here in Connecticut, we’ve lost five firefighters to cancer over the last five years and have over 30 diagnoses of our members since we started tracking those statistics only a couple of short years ago,” said Peter Brown, president at Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut (UPFFA). “That trend has to stop.”
