Connecticut Senators Bob Duff and James Maroney introduced legislation aimed to address key consumer and public health issues. SB 3 seeks to combat price gouging by permanently expanding the state’s attorney general’s authority to target unfair pricing during economic disruptions, while also adding consumer protections from junk fees and right to repair protections. “We are committed to making life more affordable for Connecticut families by addressing the practices that unfairly drive up costs,” Senate President Martin Looney said. “Price gouging shouldn’t be prohibited only during declared emergencies – it’s a harmful practice that burdens consumers at any time. This legislation will ensure fairness and accountability up and down the supply chain, so that residents aren’t exploited when they shop for essential goods.” SB 7, the “Shield Bill,” would enact new public health safeguards from federal intervention by maintaining water fluoridation, access to essential abortion pills, and a new emergency fund to protect against potential healthcare emergencies.
