The Developing Exceptional American Leaders -- a national group aimed at sharing the innovative ideas of local and state elected leaders – announced Thursday that Cincinnati City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld's "Town Square Schools" project is a finalist for the group's New Ideas Challenge.

Town Square Schools turns underutilized schools into round-the-clock neighborhood hubs, offering after-school programming, health resources, adult education and recreational opportunities for students, their families, and the surrounding community.

"P.G. Sittenfeld has impressed us with his innovative solution to grow the economy and expand opportunity for all," said Delaware Gov. Jack Markell, an honorary co-chairman of the New Ideas Challenge.

Sittenfeld was one of 60 applicants. The winner will be announced Dec. 3.
