The NewDEAL Forum, a nonprofit that counts state officials among its ranks, is calling on local governments to adopt AI responsibly in a rebuke to President Donald Trump’s executive order to quash state regulations on the technology. NewDEAL’s AI Task Force — which is led by New York Assemblymember Alex Bores; Albany, New York, Mayor-elect Dorcey Applyrs; and San Jose, California, Mayor Matt Mahan — released a new report with an AI roadmap for states, which was shared exclusively with POLITICO’s Morning Tech team.“The Future of Government with AI” includes recommendations for local governments to use the technology to streamline permitting, alleviate traffic congestion and enhance wildfire prevention. As the report reads, “[G]overnments at every level cannot afford to sit on the sidelines as passive observers or focus solely on regulation.”
