Routt County Commissioner Angelica Salinas selected for national Democratic leadership network

Routt County Commissioner Angelica Salinas has been selected as one of 22 leaders from across the country to join NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a national network of “center-left” Democratic state and local elected officials, as part of its 2026 class, according to a Thursday statement.

NewDEAL describes itself as a “selective group of rising stars in the Democratic Party working to solve America’s most pressing challenges.”

NewDEAL members receive support in policy development, effective governance and the advancement of their public service careers.

Network representatives wrote in the statement that Salinas was selected in part due to her dedication to expanding affordable housing, strengthening rural economic development and protecting Colorado’s natural environment.

“One of Salinas’ key initiatives has been helping lead the Yampa Valley Housing Authority’s efforts, which expanded housing options for seniors, essential workers and working families,” wrote NewDEAL representatives.

“She has also defended funding for public-private childcare projects, strengthened protections for working ranchlands through the county’s Purchase of Development Rights program, and supported local businesses through workforce and economic development initiatives,” they added.

Through both in-person and virtual meetings, Salinas will work with colleagues across the United States to “bring forth a better, more prosperous future for all Americans,” wrote representatives.
