Sanin Named to National Network of Rising Democrats

Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin has been selected as one of 22 new members of NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a national network of Democratic state and local elected officials recognized for advancing pragmatic public policy.

Sanin joins more than 240 state and local officials nationwide in the organization, whose members are selected from more than 2,200 nominations over the past 15 years. The group brings together elected officials to collaborate on policy initiatives, leadership development and governance.

NewDEAL alumni include U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who joined the organization while serving as mayor of South Bend, Indiana; Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who joined as a county commissioner; and U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride, who joined as a Delaware state senator. Current New York members include Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs and Assemblymember Alex Bores.

Sanin was selected in part for her work strengthening partnerships between government and nonprofit organizations to expand access to human services, according to NewDEAL. The organization also cited her efforts in public safety, environmental stewardship and economic development.
