Sarah Trone Garriott is State Senator for IA SD 14. Trone Garriott is an ordained Lutheran Minister (ELCA) and serves at the Coordinator of Interfaith Engagement for the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network. First elected in 2020, Trone Garriott flipped a Republican majority seat. As a result of redistricting in 2022 Trone Garriott chose to sell her home and move in order challenge on the State Senate President. She again flipped a Republican majority seat, successfully defending it again in 2024.

Senator Trone Garriott is a strong advocate for public voice in state government. She serves on the Commerce, Education, Natural Resources, Administrative Rules Review Committees, and is the ranking Democrat on the Health and Human Services Committee.
