Today, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and U.S. Senator Mark Begich of Alaska announced that four leaders have been selected as Honorary Regional Chairs of the NewDEAL for their impressive work championing pro-growth progressive ideas in their cities and states: Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Houston Mayor Annise Parker, and former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz.

Launched in 2011, the NewDEAL is a national network committed to highlighting pro-growth progressive state and local elected leaders and their innovative ideas to build broadly-earned, sustainable economic growth.

“We are excited to help rising leaders exchange ideas, find innovative solutions and promote economic development in ways that will grow our country’s economy,” said Governor Hickenlooper.

“We shouldn’t have to choose between growing the pie and making sure everyone gets a fair slice,” said Mayor Booker. “I’m proud to join the NewDEAL to share the innovative ideas we’re putting into practice to bring real progress here in Newark.”

“The NewDEAL helps leaders find innovative ideas from across the country to make government smarter and more efficient, and I’m looking forward putting them to work for Houston” said Mayor Parker.

“I’m honored to work with the NewDEAL to highlight the leaders of tomorrow with ideas to expand opportunity for more of us,” said former Mayor Diaz.

The NewDEAL is committed to helping pro-growth progressive leaders share their innovative ideas on its interactive website, www.NewDEALLeaders.org.  The public is encouraged to nominate state and local elected leaders on our website and stay connected as we highlight more of their pro-growth progressive ideas.
