Kate Farrar

Representative | West Hartford, CT

First elected in November 2020, State Representative Kate Farrar is proud to serve the 20th District, which includes parts of West Hartford and Newington. For her current term, she was appointed to several leadership positions as Deputy Majority Leader, House Chair of the Early Childhood Education Endowment and Chair of the Internship Committee. Additionally, she is a member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding, Higher Education & Employment Advancement and Transportation Committees.
In addition to leading the historic passage of the Early Childhood Education Endowment and childcare priority bills the last two years, Kate has worked to create greater tax fairness, protect and expand health care access, and build greater equity in education and the workforce.
Kate brings over 20 years’ experience as a non-profit advocate and community volunteer to her legislative role. Prior to her election, she led the passage of CT’s landmark Paid Family and Medical Leave Act and pay equity legislation as Executive Director of the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF). She now works for the statewide foodbank Connecticut Foodshare to address food insecurity. Kate earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Connecticut and a master’s in public administration from Syracuse University. She lives in West Hartford with her husband Chan and their dog Lizzie.
