MASSACHUSETTS: New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell announced three zoning reform proposals to increase the city’s housing supply. The proposals include creating a “Transit Oriented Development” district around a newly built train station. That would mean opportunities for new multi-family housing, restaurants, and space for light industry, as well as additional residential and commercial units. In addition, Mitchell's effort will streamline and expedite the city’s existing site plan review processes and will update the city’s zoning table to encourage and increase certainty for long-term investment around budding local industries, such as breweries, biotech manufacturing, and maritime trading.
